Next month’s Legacy Fighting Championships 10 lineup has undergone a few changes.

Chief among them? UFC vet Gerald Harris, who’s fresh off a pair of Tachi Palace Fights and DREAM victories, has joined the Feb. 24 lineup.

Harris (19-4) now fights fellow middleweight Artenas Young (7-4) on the night’s HDNet-televised main card, Legacy officials confirmed with MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Young’s original opponent, William “Bubba” Bush (3-1), remains on the card. However, an opponent hasn’t been determined.

Legacy Fighting 10 takes place at Houston’s Arena Theater. At least six fights are expected to be part of the night’s live HDNet-televised main card.

Harris, who surprisingly was released from the UFC in 2010 following a 3-1 run in the organization, is a former IFL fighter who competed on “The Ultimate Fighter 7.” The former Cleveland State University wrestler knocked out John Salter, Mario Miranda and Dave Branch (with two “KO of the Night” awards) under the UFC banner before a decision loss to Maiquel Falcao resulted in his UFC release. The loss snapped a 10-fight win streak for the part-time comedian.

Harris now looks to go 3-1 in his post-UFC career when he meets Young, who looks to rebound from a Shark Fights 20 loss to recent UFC signee Clifford Starks. The onetime Strikeforce returns to Legacy for the first time since early 2011, when he earned a decision victory over Jonathan Mack.

The latest Legacy Fighting Championships 10 event now includes:

MAIN CARD (HDNet)
•Mike Bronzoulis vs. Eric Davila
•Pat Audinwood vs. Justin Reiswerg
•Gerald Harris vs. Artenas Young
•Carson Beebe vs. Tim Snyder
•Jonathon Harris vs. Chidi Njokuani
•Rashon Lewis vs. Alex Morono

PRELIMINARY CARD
•William “Bubba” Bush vs. TBA
•Angel Huerta vs. Mike Sierra
•Lee Higgins vs. Lee King
•Jason Carter vs. Cody Phillips
•Ray Blodget vs. Rey Trujillo
•Jesus Mendez vs. Cody Williams

Hurricane fought 3 hard rounds against MMA veteran and Japanese Legend Kazuhiro Nakamura. Nakamura is known for his toughness and experience, he’s also a Judo Olympic Gold medalist.

In a battle of two former UFC competitors, Gerald Harris got the best of Kazuhiro Nakamura by split decision.

Gerald Harris was able to control the action against Nakamura, continuously going for takedown after takedown. Harris wasn’t able to keep Nakamura on his back when he did secure a takedown, but he just pushed forward again and again.

Harris finally lifted Nakamura over his head for one of his patented slams just seconds before the end of the fight, but the thud was somewhat anti-climactic after Nakamura grabbed the ropes a few times to stop the move from happening full force.

by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Sep 19, 2011 at 8:45 am ET

The lineup for this weekend’s 10-bout DREAM.17 lineup is now official.

Shinya Aoki vs. Rob McCullough headlines the Sept. 24 event, which takes place at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, and airs live in the U.S. on HDNet.

The event opens with the four quarterfinal matchups in DREAM’s world bantamweight grand prix.

DREAM.17 is the first 2011 fight card from the Japanese-based promotion to air live in the U.S. Tape-delayed airings of DREAM’s two most recent shows were due to the fact that the promotion, which encountered serious financial difficulties in 2010 and much of 2011, had not yet decided to forge ahead with live events. By the time it did, live programming was no longer an option on the premium cable channel, DREAM’s U.S. representative Mike Kogan previously told MMAjunkie.com.

DREAM.17 is also the promotion’s first to utilize the bout format favored by American promoters. The fights will feature three, five-minute rounds, as opposed to one 10-minute round followed by a second five-minute round.

DREAM.17 airs live on HDNet this Saturday morning, Sept. 24, at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT.

The evening’s full lineup includes:

Shinya Aoki vs. Rob McCullough

Joachim Hansen vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri

Takeshi Inoue vs. Caol Uno

Yan Cabral vs. Kazushi Sakuraba

Willamy Freire vs. Satoru Kitaoka

Gerald Harris vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura

Antonio Banuelos vs. Hideo Tokoro (bantamweight grand-prix quarterfinal)

Bibiano Fernandes vs. Takafumi Otuska (bantamweight grand-prix quarterfinal)

Masakazu Imanari vs. Abel Cullum (bantamweight grand-prix quarterfinal)

Rodolfo Marques vs. Yusup Saadulaev (bantamweight grand-prix quarterfinal)

Gerald Harris (18-4 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) is bound for Japan.

The ex-UFC middleweight today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he’s signed a multi-fight contract with DREAM.

While Harris’ debut for the promotion has yet to be determined, though DREAM representative Mike Kogan said today that there is “a very good chance” the fighter could appear on an as-yet-unannounced event, possibly DREAM.17, targeted for Sept. 25 at Saitama Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Harris is happy to have a promotion to call home.

“It’s just dangerous to sign with an organization that’s either new or trying to come back, or that’s not stable,” he said. “They’re very stable.”

While that statement might not ring true to many hardcore MMA fans – DREAM’s financial struggles were well-documented in 2010 and later compounded by a horrific earthquake that hit Japan this past April – Harris is confident that the promotion is not going anywhere.

“Everybody’s had situations in the past, but I’m just saying overall – they have a great reputation, they produce great fighters, and they’re highly respected.”

Harris said that he should know his first booking for DREAM in the next few days.

“It’s just a multi-fight deal,” he said. “Even my contract says, ‘You’re going to fight this many times.’ It was real simple, and they’re going to come back with more details.”

Three-time WEC veteran Ian McCall (10-2) earned his third-straight victory and a shot at Tachi Palace Fights’ flyweight title with a one-sided unanimous-decision win over Dustin Ortiz (7-1) in the main event of Friday’s “TPF 9: The Contenders” event.

Additionally, UFC veterans Fabricio Camoes (12-5-1) and Gerald Harris (18-4) also picked up decision victories at the event.

Tachi Palace Fights 9 took place at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, Calif.

While the opening round was the most competitive of the three, McCall dominated Ortiz for the majority of the contest with a sprawl-and-brawl approach that saw Ortiz unable to garner takedowns and unable to match his opponent’s striking prowess. It was McCall’s second-straight decision win under the Tachi Palace Fights banner after upsetting Jussier da Silva this past February.

Ortiz will now face TPF flyweight champ Darrell Montague at an as-yet-unannounced August event.

Camoes downed fellow UFC vet Efrain Escudero (16-3) via unanimous decision by controlling the fight in the grappling department while also flashing some improved striking skills. Escudero pressed hard in the final frame, but it was a case of too little, too late, as Camoes walked away with the decision.

The victory was Camoes’ second straight win following his UFC release after an 0-1-1 stint in the octagon. The loss for Escudero snapped a three-fight win streak.

Meanwhile, Harris picked up the win against a gritty Anthony Ruiz (25-16), largely due to his ability to control the fight in the clinch. Ruiz landed the occasional power shot when “Hurricane” was willing to strike, but Harris wisely avoided the standup exchanges in favor of controlling the action.

The much-needed win snapped a two-fight losing streak for Harris, while Ruiz has now dropped three-consecutive fights for just the second time in his career.

In other notable action, TPF featherweight champ defeated Russ Miura via first-round TKO, though he was forced to vacate the belt after missing weight for the contest. Mamoru Yamaguchi, Jorge Lopez and Chidi Njokuani also picked up wins in their promotional debut.
